Professionally, Marisa Barnhart (she/her) is a social worker, clinical consultant, academic, writer, and educator. Personally, she is a queer parent of two awesome young people, one of whom has needs that put Marisa and her family in regular contact with multiple complex systems.
Marisa's approach is collaborative, insight oriented, and grounded in relationship, with a good dose of pragmatism. Marisa works to scaffold conversations to get you in touch with what you know and what it is possible for you to know.
Marisa has been a therapist for over 15 years, with a special focus in narrative approaches with young people and their families. More recently, Marisa's work has been focused on working with people who have experienced trauma and loss.
Marisa brings her academic, teaching and clinical practice together in supporting people to navigate their own professional and personal narratives.

All people, at one time or another, run up against barriers and problems that can make life feel difficult. During these times, we can get isolated from our strengths and beliefs - the very tools that help us to cope with these challenges. This can make resolving an issue even more difficult. Marisa can help you figure out what is important to you, so that you can live a life consistent with your personal values, and resolve problems in a way that fits for you.
Marisa brings together scholarship, clinical expertise, and a deep well of personal experience to support others navigating the sometimes choppy waters of life. With humour, systemic thinking, and a collaborative approach, Marisa will support you to think through what you are up against in your own work and life to navigate those waters with steadiness and even (gasp) occasional fun!
